The Official Baseball Rules, as published by The Sporting News, with the exceptions and variations contained in the 2006 PONY Baseball Rules & Regulations” book, and special rules listed below, shall be the official baseball rules of Kirkland PONY Baseball.
Playing Time
Pony, Colt, and Palomino managers are required to play each player a minimum of 2 innings and 1 at bat per game. No player should sit out of play 2 games in a row. Notification, to the parents and player/agent or league president, is required from the manger if a player will not be playing due to disciplinary reasons.
Extra Hitter (EH)
This rule is to accommodate the larger rostered teams and is not mandatory. It is up to the manager or coach of the team to decide if they are going to use the EH. Also if one team decides to use the EH the opposing team still has the option to use or not to use an EH.
An Extra Hitter (EH) will be allowed, and must be declared before the start of the game. The EH can be placed in any spot in the team line up. The EH cannot be replaced and if the EH takes a fielding position at any time during the game the EH position is forfeited (the EH will remain in the same batting order, the batting spot of the player replaced by the EH is skipped. Also if the player who is replaced by the EH was a starter, and re-enters, that player must re-enter in to the EH’s batting position).
Courtesy runners (2 Out Rule)
Courtesy runners may be used to replace a pitcher or a catcher as a base runner when there are two (2) outs. The courtesy runner must be a player that is not in the current line-up, if there are no substitutes available the person making the last out may used as a courtesy runner.
Slide or Avoid
All base runners will be required to slide or avoid.
No headfirst slides into Home plate, the runner will be called out, the run will not count.
